VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

One of the core roles the Hoopsfix Foundation aims to fulfil is as a facilitator and enabler.

Hoopsfix Pro-Am Staff Volunteers

We not only have a large volunteer network that is activated across all our events, but we also work in a more formal capacity with organisations such as the University of East London to offer work placements.

In the summer of 2022 we had two students complete their Masters in Sports Management using placement hours with Hoopsfix.

Ashlyn Gergins (pictured, below) graduated in September 2022 with her Masters in Sports Management from the University of East London.

“My placement with Hoopsfix provided me with invaluable sport business experience,” Gergins said.

“Given the nature of Hoopsfix’s involvement in the basketball community and the rapid growth they’ve seen in recent years, there was never a shortage of work to be done or lessons to be learned. Transitioning from one event to the next: the All-Star Classic, the Pro-Am Summer League, to the NBA3X Tournament, I was able to gain experience in a variety of different realms within sport business: ticket sales, event planning and execution, marketing, operations, livestream production, management, and more. Not only was it helpful for my career, but it was a lot of fun!

“As an intern with Hoopsfix, I felt what I did mattered, that I was playing a small part making a difference in the historically underserved community of British Basketball’s fans and players. I will be forever grateful for Sam Neter and the team at Hoopsfix for all that I’ve learned working with them, for keeping it real, fresh and engaging, and for always putting the community first.”

Paige Robinson (pictured, below) graduated in January of 2023 with a Masters in Sports Management from the University of East London.

“My placement with Hoopsfix has helped my knowledge of basketball through an operational lens which I plan to utilise in the future,” she said.

“I’ve learnt so much about sport business and people it’s great how I went to school to learn certain things as a grad student and ended up implementing it through the Hoopsfix Foundation. It’s been a great adventure so far, and I’m looking forward for what’s ahead.”

While we also gave young potential operators their first experience of event management, as Deric Eze (pictured below, right) ran the King and Queen of the Trenches 1-on-1 competition as part of Hoopsfix Summer Jam at Clapham Common.
